Professional Bio

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Lori Bedell (she/her) earned all of her media-related degrees from Ohio University in beautiful Athens, Ohio. Lori and her family moved around a lot, but she's happily called State College and Penn State home since 2003. Beginning her career in Los Angeles in the Film/TV industry, Lori transitioned into academia and has since taught a wide range of courses including video production, communication theory, first-year seminars on politics and media, and women and communication. Her primary teaching responsibilities have recently included Civic and Community Engagement (CAS 222N/CIVCM 211N), Democratic Leadership (CAS 209), Rhetoric and Civic Life (CAS 137H, 138T), and Human Communication (CAS 101N). She is currently an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences and serves as the Assistant Director for the Intercollege Minor in Civic and Community Engagement. When not working with students, you can find her paddling, hiking, baking, or playing with her dog, Maybee.
