The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences is a valued part of the College of the Liberal Arts and the Pennsylvania State University. The Faculty Scholar Medal is given to a full-time faculty member after a significant five-year project accumulates into a coherent theme that gives back to the university.

The Howard B. Palmer Faculty Mentoring Award recognizes a full-time faculty member with five years of active service who exhibits exemplary achievement in mentoring and guiding junior faculty.

Established in 1969 in honor of the late McKay Donkin, who served as vice president and treasurer of the University from 1957 to 1968, the award is presented to a full-time member of the faculty or staff or to a retiree who has contributed most to the “economic, physical, mental or social welfare of the faculty” of the University.
