Professional Bio
Thomas Benson is a rhetorical scholar with expertise in rhetorical criticism and theory. His research focuses on public address, presidential rhetoric, political communication, visual rhetoric, rhetoric of film, and rhetoric of technology. He is the former editor of Communication Quarterly, The Quarterly Journal of Speech, and founding editor of The Review of Communication and CRTNET (Communication Research and Theory Network), a listserv for students and scholars of human communication. He has received several awards for his scholarship, such as the Distinguished Scholar Award from the National Communication Association, the Everett Lee Hunt Award, the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Eastern Communication Association, and the Distinguished Research Fellow. His service and mentoring have also been nationally commemorated through multiple Presidential Citation Awards, the Meritous Service Award, and the National Communication Association’s Mentor Award.
