Students Teaching Students

In coordination with an undergraduate-run organization called Students Teaching Students, CAS department faculty members mentor exemplary students who develop and teach 1-credit courses on a variety of subjects that advance expertise in communication and its role in public life. This semester, Associate Teaching Professor Lori Bedell is supporting undergraduates Kara Miller (who was in Lori’s RCL course a few years back) and Jess Strait as they teach a course titled “Period Talk: The Impact of Stigma on the Menstrual Equity Movement.”

Professional Bio

Stephen Browne is a rhetorical critic with particular interests in public memory, social movements, and early America. He is the author most recently of The Ides of War: George Washington and the Newburgh Crisis, as well as Jefferson’s Call for Nationhood: The First Inaugural Address, Angelina Grimke: Rhetoric, Identity, and the Radical Imagination; and Edmund Burke and the Discourse of Virtue. Professor Browne teaches graduate seminars in rhetoric and memory and rhetorical criticism, and undergraduate courses in rhetorical theory, history, and criticism. He has been named a Distinguished Scholar by the National Communication Association, and is the recipient of NCA’s Diamond Anniversary Book Award and Karl Wallace Memorial Award.  Penn State’s College of the Liberal Arts has recognized Professor Browne’s work in the classroom with its Class of 1933 Award for Excellence in Teaching.
