Shewit Mikael

Professional Bio

Shewit Mikael is a PhD student at Penn State, pursuing a minor in African Studies. She earned her BA in Communication Studies and Psychology from the University of Denver and her MA in Communication and Rhetorical Studies from Syracuse University. Her research focuses on immigration and migration rhetorics, particularly from the African continent, exploring how inclusive immigration practices operate within hegemonic systems and how the language of inclusivity functions in these contexts. She also examines sound studies in relation to migration, investigating how sound and oral expression shape migrant experiences and the politics of belonging.
