Professional Bio
Ruth Osoro is a PhD candidate in the department of Communication Arts and Sciences. Ruth's research interests lie broadly at the intersections of social influence, stigma and power. Specifically, Ruth studies resistance to problematic interpersonal influence, with a particular emphasis on resistance to stigmatization. Currently, her research examines the individual, social, and relational factors that promote and inhibit people's resistance to stigmatization. Further, her research examines the communication acts of allies during stigmatization encounters, and how people's intersecting social categories shape stigma resistance. Ruth teaches Effective Speaking (CAS100A) and Persuasion (CAS220) at Penn State.
