Robin Duffee

Students Teaching Students

In coordination with an undergraduate-run organization called Students Teaching Students, CAS department faculty members mentor exemplary students who develop and teach 1-credit courses on a variety of subjects that advance expertise in communication and its role in public life. This semester, Associate Teaching Professor Lori Bedell is supporting undergraduates Kara Miller (who was in Lori’s RCL course a few years back) and Jess Strait as they teach a course titled “Period Talk: The Impact of Stigma on the Menstrual Equity Movement.”

Professional Bio

Robin Duffee has an interdisciplinary research background in critical media studies and rhetorical theory, and currently studies equitable and accessible teaching practices in higher education. Related to that pursuit, she has earned a certification in Ethical Pedagogy from the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, and is a faculty ambassador for Penn State’s Gender Equity Center.
Robin loves to help students learn both theoretical concepts and practical skills that can help them improve their communication in their personal, professional, and public lives. She specializes in teaching Effective Communication: Message Criticism (CAS 100C) and Foundations of Civic and Community Engagement (CAS 222N/CIVCM 211N), but has also taught and assisted with a wide variety of other courses in the department, including: Public Speaking (CAS 100A), Collaborative Communication (CAS 100B), Persuasion and Propaganda (CAS 175), Advanced Speechwriting (CAS 214W), Rhetorical Theory (CAS 301), and Rhetoric of Film and Television (CAS 415).
