Professional Bio
Pamela VanHaitsma is a Sherwin Early Career Professor in the Rock Ethics Institute and associate professor of Communication Arts and Sciences and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Dr. VanHaitsma’s interdisciplinary scholarship bridges rhetoric, archives, and gender and sexuality studies. Her first book, Queering Romantic Engagement in the Postal Age: A Rhetorical Education, is a queer history of epistolary rhetoric (University of South Carolina Press, 2019). Currently she is working on two book projects. One investigates how the erotic functioned as rhetorical power for nineteenth-century women teachers in same-sex romantic friendships, and the other charts queer trails through Rachel Carson’s letters.
