Professional Bio
Lynsey Medd is a PhD student studying supportive communication, mindfulness, and meditation. In general, Lynsey’s research seeks to understand the ways we heal ourselves and the people we are close to through communication. Previous and current research of Lynsey’s examines how dispositional mindfulness plays a role in how people seek support, how tough love is a distinct form of support that can be helpful yet hurtful, and how engaging with meditative techniques can enhance supportive interactions. Lynsey has taught effective communication (CAS 100A), effective group communication (CAS 100B), and interpersonal communication (CAS 203), and has worked as a teaching assistant for introduction to human communication (CAS 101N), communication theory (CAS 303), communication and information technology (CAS 283), and quantitative methods in communication research (CAS 304). Lynsey received the 2024-2025 Kathryn DeBoer Award for Excellence in Teaching by a Graduate Student in the Communication Arts and Sciences department.
