Professional Bio

Spielvogel's research has appeared in national and international journals in the fields of digital media, gaming, and learning, rhetoric, and American history, while his recent book, Interpreting Sacred Ground:  The Rhetoric of National Civil War Parks and Battlefields (U of Alabama Press, 2013), examines the commemorative frameworks used to interpret violence and race at national Civil War battlefields and parks. Spielvogel's research projects in the areas of rhetoric, Digital Humanities, and technology-based innovation have been funded by a variety of foundations and agencies, including the National Endowment for the Humanities, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, the Kauffman Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Institute of Education Sciences.
