Penn State Debate Team Impresses at Rock the Resolution Tournament
On September 13th and 14th, members of the Penn State Debate Team traveled to Western Pennsylvania to compete in the 2024 Rock the Resolution Debate Tournament hosted by Slippery Rock University. The regional debate tournament, sanctioned by the National Educational Debate Association, brought together student competitors from 8 universities across 5 different states.
In the novice public forum division, the team of Nico Johns and Sachin Sashti finished in first place after winning all six of their debates. Sashti, a junior finance major, and Johns, a senior accounting major also won awards for the 4th and 5th ranked individual speakers respectively in their division.
Sophomore Madeline Ashton, a criminology and communication arts and sciences double major, finished in 3rd place in the novice rapid-fire debate division with a 4-2 win/loss record, while also securing that division’s 3rd place speaker award.
Kaitlyn McMahon, a senior majoring in French and criminology, finished in 5th place in the varsity rapid-fire division.
