CAS 403 is an advanced undergraduate course in social scientific theory and research on interpersonal communication. The course may be taught with a focus on contemporary theory and research, or on interpersonal communication in personal and professional relationships. It may also incorporate a research practicum, in which students participate in conducting a research study.
Course Objectives
- Knowledge of contemporary concepts and theories relevant to interpersonal communication, and improved capacity to critique and extend these ideas
- Knowledge about the ethics and mechanics of interpersonal communication research with human participants, and improved capacity to critique and design research
- Ability to apply relevant concepts, theories, and research findings to analyzing and explaining interpersonal communication in personal and professional life
- Improved skill in developing and presenting informative presentations on complex material, including identifying relevant sources, developing an annotated bibliography, creating learning activities and evaluations, and oral delivery with presentation software.
