Professional Bio
Hyejin Shin is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences. Her research lies at the intersection of AI-mediated communication (AI-MC), social support, personal relationships, and computational social science. As AI increasingly shapes everyday social interaction—from smart replies to video filters—she investigates how AI transforms the ways people seek, provide, and interpret interpersonal messages. Through this work, she aims to clarify how people communicate support, cope with stress, and maintain relationships in an AI-mediated world. Her work has been presented at national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals including Frontiers in Psychiatry and Urban Studies. In addition to her research, Hyejin teaches Effective Speech (CAS 100A) and serves as a teaching assistant for Communication and Information Technology I (CAS 283) and Group Communication Theory and Research (CAS 450W).
