Faculty Spotlight: Distinguished Professor Denise Solomon gives 18th Memorial Bradac Lecture
Faculty Spotlight:
Denise Solomon, Distinguished Professor of Communication Arts and Sciences, recently traveled to the University of California, Santa Barbara, to deliver the 18th Memorial Bradac Lecture, which honors the legacy of communication scholar James Bradac. Professor Solomon’s presentation, A Dynamic Systems Perspective on Interpersonal Communication, focused on her efforts – in collaboration with Mimi Brinberg (Ohio State University), Nilam Ram (Stanford University), Graham Bodie (University of Mississippi), and Susanne Jones (University of Minnesota) – to study turn-to-turn dynamics within supportive conversations. The visit included a tour from UCSB’s Distinguished Professor Howard Giles and a conversation with CAS PhD alumna, Jennifer Kam, a professor in the Department of Communication at UCSB. Professor Solomon’s research on a dynamic dyadic systems perspective on conversation has been funded by two grants from the National Science Foundation.
