Professional Bio

Dr. Raman teaches courses on rhetoric and civic life,  political communication and technology, and communication ethics. She also studies the role of digital media in politics and democratic governance. Her research has examined the use of new media technologies for electronic governance, their impact on the public sphere, and the ethical issues involved in using social media for political purposes. She is the author of the book, Information Technology and Participatory Democracy: A Case Study of Bangalore City (March, 2010), Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany and several book chapters on digital governance, and the virtual public sphere. Her current project focuses on the role of citizen participation in local and national environmental policies and the digital aspects of environmental advocacy.
