Professional Bio
Dennis Gouran is a leading scholar in the area of small group communication, with a particular emphasis on the communication functions of problem-solving and decision-making processes. His research has included theoretical, experimental, and critical approaches to small group interaction. He has taught classes on group communication, conflict management, and communication theory. Dennis Gouran has served as President of the Speech Communication Association and as Chair for the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences at Penn State. He has won numerous awards, including the Speech Communication Association Distinguished Scholar Award, the Robert T. Oliver Lifetime Achievement Award, the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award, the Carroll C. Arnold Distinguished Service Award, and the Eastern Communication Association Centennial Scholar.
