Professional Bio

Max is primarily studying the formation of the ‘rural voting bloc’ in contemporary American politics. Working at the intersections of rhetoric and rural sociology, he is interested both in how political rhetoric and mass media come to shape rural identity and how, in-turn, narratives of rural America shape political discourse and policy outcomes. Originally entering rhetoric from a debate background, Max considers speech and debate a key passion. He spent a year as an assistant debate coach for Cornell University before joining the CAS team.
