J.J. De La Cruz studies identity development in interpersonal relationships. His research seeks to examine communication as it pertains to identity development in terms of persuasion, social support, and psychological negotiation. His interests lie within the negotiation of identity during times of transition and crisis in individuals’ lives and relationships. J.J.’s research focuses on what constitutes identity confirmation from others and how individuals seek out identity confirmation in different relational contexts.
