Professional Bio

J.J. De La Cruz studies identity development in interpersonal relationships. Broadly, J.J. is interested in the way people communicate with others as a means of identity development. Taking the position that communication is a fundamental driving force in the process of identity construction, J.J. aims to understand how identities are enacted and regulated through direct and indirect means of communication. His current efforts are focused on outlining identity as a system that uses communication to regulate internal and external tensions, which serve to achieve an optimal state of person-societal identity integration.
