Professional Bio

Hyejin Shin is currently a second-year Ph.D. student whose research lies at the intersection of AI-mediated communication (AI-MC), social support, personal relationships, and computational social science. As AI increasingly shapes everyday social interaction—from smart-replies to video filters—she investigates how AI technologies transform the ways people seek, provide, and interpret social support. Through this work, she aims to clarify how people communicate support, cope with stress, and maintain relationships in an AI-mediated world. Her work has been presented at national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals such as Frontiers in Psychiatry and Urban Studies. In addition to her research, Hyejin teaches Effective Speech (CAS 100A) and serves as a Teaching Assistant for Communication and Information Technology I (CAS 283) and Communication Theory (CAS 303).
