Faculty Spotlight:

Andy High, Associate Professor of Communication Arts & Sciences, is Co-Principal Investigator on a team that was recently awarded a Minerva Program Grant for more than $1 million from the Department of Defense. The title of the project is "Algorithmic Personalization and Online Radicalization: A Mixed Methods Approach." The aims of the 3 year project are to examine when and why users of social media adopt extreme political and cultural points of view through their use of technology, and what researchers, technology companies, and policymakers can do to prevent those attitudes from forming. Collaborators on the project include Brian Ekdale, Timothy Havens, Rishab Nithyanand (all at the University of Iowa), and Raven Maragh-Lloyd (Gonzaga University).
