Faculty Spotlight: Stuckey invited to talk about new book at Penn State Great Valley

Dr. Mary Stuckey was invited to give a talk about her newest book at Penn State Great Valley campus on November 3rd. Her book, Deplorable: The Worst Presidential Campaigns from Jefferson to Trump, explores how insults, invectives, and violence have characterized US electoral politics since the republic’s early days. The elections of 2016 and 2020 are not unprecedented but part of a recurring pattern in US political culture. In her presentation, Professor Stuckey addressed the questions, “what makes elections ‘deplorable’, and how often and why do they recur?” Her talk touched on several elections, especially the 1992 campaigns of Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, and Ross Perot. Her book can be pushed in various online and retail bookstores and directly from Penn State University Press.
