Mentoring

WHAT IS MENTORING?

Mentoring--from the Greek word meaning enduring--is defined as a sustained relationship between a person with less experience and a person with more experience in a given area. Through continued involvement, the more experienced person offers support, guidance, and assistance to the less experienced person.

COMMUNICATION ARTS & SCIENCES MENTORING PROGRAM

The program is intended to match undergraduates with graduates or experienced seniors to assist the less experienced student. Some issues that a mentor and mentee might address are informal goal setting, course selection and program of study advising, and career planning. The mentor is neither a professional advisor nor a counselor, but he or she will assist you when you are confused, are concerned, or just want to hang out with someone who has some experience in the department.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

You will need to set up an appointment to talk with Dr. Michelle Miller-Day AT 865-3826 or mam32@psu.edu about your interests. She will answer your questions and match you with a mentor.
