Registration for internship credit (CAS 495) requires prior approval by the internship faculty coordinator. Planning for your internship experience should begin early in the semester prior to the one in which you plan to intern.
- Pick up a CAS 495 Internship Handbook from the departmental office in 234 Sparks Building. Check that you meet all requirements (see page 6).
2. Begin to think realistically about your potential internship position. What are your goals? What kinds of experiences will be most beneficial to you? What do you hope to learn? What do you have to offer a potential organizational sponsor? Consult with faculty members who are most familiar with your work and your interests and whose own teaching and research interests are most compatible with the goals of your internship.
3. Prepare a résumé and sample cover letter. Contact Career Services, 101 MBNA Career Services Center, 865-2377, if you need help in preparing these documents.
4. Contact potential organizational sponsors. Begin this process as soon as your job search documents are in order. If you need help developing an internship search strategy, please feel free to set up an appointment with Dr. Ronald Jackson.
5. Once you have obtained an internship position, meet with the internship faculty coordinator, Dr. Ronald Jackson, 226 Sparks Building, 863-6260. PLEASE BRING A COPY OF YOUR CURRENT DEGREE AUDIT. Dr. Jackson will answer any questions you have about the paperwork and/or the process, work with you on clarifying internship goals and expectations, and answer any other questions you may have.
6. Prepare your internship agreement form, allowing time for input from both the faculty internship coordinator and organizational sponsors. Gather the required signatures. Submit signed copies to Dr. Jackson and to your organizational sponsors. Keep a signed copy for yourself. At this point, he will also fill out a drop/add form so that you can register for the appropriate amount of internship credits. Please bring the completed drop/add form to Kristie Kalvin in 234 Sparks Building to be officially added.
