FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: How do I receive credit for an internship?
A: To begin, you will need to speak with your CAS adviser. She will help
you determine how best to go about signing up for an internship for your
target semester. She will also explain the LA 495 credit, what it entails,
and what your responsibilities are. The number of hours you work on an internship
will determine how many credits you will receive. This information is also
laid out in the Internship Basics.
Q: How do I choose and arrange an internship?
A: Under the Internships Program website, you will find a search link
that will allow you to choose by employer name, city or state, or pathway.
If you already have a company in mind that is not listed in our search
link, you may visit their website for further information. Usually,
internship opportunities are posted under the company’s Employment or Career
Opportunities link. Follow the company’s instructions to apply. If
you found a company you would like to intern with under our search link,
use the contact information to find out about the application process.
Q: Why should I do an internship?
A: Internships offer many benefits. The first benefit is your access
to a real job experience in the field in which you intend to find employment.
Next, internships provide excellent networking opportunities; the people
you meet through your internship may end up being your professional co-workers
or links to other employment opportunities. Finally, completing an internship
is a resume booster. Employers like to see a potential employee with some
previous experience and success in their career field of choice. So make
the most of your internship. Stand out. Go above and beyond the expectations
of your supervisors to win respect, future recommendations, and even a job!
