Student Testimonials

Anna Johnson studied in Rome, Italy with the Architecture department in 2006.

"I studied abroad in Rome, Italy, with Penn State's Architecture Program.  I finished my minor in Architectural Studies while I was over there.  I also wrote for the Lion's Roar and received one 400-level CAS credit for that and three 400-level CAS credits for an internship that I was fortunate enough to find."

"While abroad, be sure to take every opportunity to travel.  If you choose to study in Europe, buy a Eur-rail Pass and see every part of the country you’re staying in.  Go to the beach, the mountains, and everywhere in between.  It’s easy to find cheap flights for quick weekend trips as well.  I went to Ireland for a four-day weekend.  Class work is important, but so is the experience.  It’s good to find a way to balance the two."

"I was in Perth, Western Australia at Murdoch University for Spring 06. I had an AMAZING time. I got a job as a bartender at a sports bar and worked a few nights a week, getting to meet a ton of Australians and a lot of other interesting people. From working I was able to save some money and travel a lot while I was in Australia. I did the STA trip through Fiji, backpacked in Thailand staying in Bangkok for Thai New Year and then into the Hill tribes of Chiang Mai where we stayed in huts! I stopped in Brunei, and also got to go to Bali in Indonesia. I traveled the whole west coast of Australia, and went on a 2 week camping trip through the northwestern outback with a group, and also rented a car with some friends and stayed on the southwest coast, going to the wineries and surf areas. I got to take an awesome Australian Cinema class while I was over there and also took creative writing and English 202...so I really enjoyed my classes. I went to the beach almost everyday. I made a lot of great friends who I still keep in touch with and see. I recommend EVERYONE goes someplace for a semester, even if it is within the US. And if money is something that scares people (which it definitely did to me) it is totally doable!!! Get a job! It's fun!"
