Xi Tian studies supportive communication in the context of bereavement. Her research examines communication strategies that people use to help bereaved individuals make sense of and cope with traumatic loss. She is particularly interested in studying how conversational processes facilitate functional reappraisal of adversity in order to alleviate emotional distress. She teaches effective speech (CAS 100A).
