Keith Fontano received a B.S. in aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2003. He continued his education at Mercy College earning his M.S. in Organizational Leadership, graduating with distinction in 2005. Prior to coming to Penn State, he spent 28 years in the U.S. Navy serving on active duty working in a variety of positions. In 1991, he graduated from the Navy's Instructor School and was later certified as a Master Training Specialist. During his 28 years of active duty, he has taught a variety of technical, managerial and leadership courses. In 2002, he reported to one of the largest schoolhouses in the Navy, The Center for Naval Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Whidbey Island, and assumed the duties as the Command Master Chief. While at CNATTU, he maintained 84 courses of instruction and was responsible for over 4,400 students graduating annually. At the completion of this tour, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by the President of the United States for his inspirational leadership while leading the Center to high levels of academic efficiency. Keith is an avid conservationist and enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible.
