Faculty Forum—302 Willard—7-8pm

The Communications Arts and Sciences Society is holding a faculty forum on Tuesday, March 25, at 7:00 PM in 302 Willard.  This is a great way to get to know some of the CAS faculty, learn about the pathways within the CAS department, and discuss potential careers that await you upon graduation.

University faculty and staff can be great resources for students.  They have real world experience, using communication related degrees in the workplace and in their everyday lives.  Additionally, many faculty members at Penn State were not always professors or teachers, but started their career paths elsewhere.  You’d be surprised how many other titles or positions some professors have on their resumes.  Maybe academia isn’t the field for you, but chances are, at least one professor at Penn State has experience in your area of interest.  All you have to do is ask!

Furthermore, though it seems obvious, the educational backgrounds of faculty members are often overlooked by students.  The entire faculty in the Communications Arts and Sciences department has completed a graduate program and most of them have earned a PHD as well.  For students contemplating graduate degrees, looking ahead with dreams of PHD’s, or even contemplating being a professor, a discussion with a faculty member could be a valuable guide.

Finally, getting to know professors in your department, that’s right, CAS majors, this is your department, is a great way to network.  Professors have information about internships, job openings, and research opportunities.  Again, all you have to do is ask.

So take the first step, attend the faculty forum Tuesday, March 25, at 7:00 PM in 302 Willard.  The Communications Arts and Sciences Society hopes to see you there!

Internship Meeting—208 Willard—6-7pm, March 25

We will be having an informational meeting for all CAS majors on Tuesday, March 25th at 6:00 p.m. in 208 Willard.  Ashley Tarbet (who directs the enrichment center and handles the college internship program) will be speaking.  In addition, we will provide some internship searching tips, information about how to obtain credits for internship, and material about applying for college enrichment funds.

Internships can be invaluable experiences both professionally and academically!  We hope the upcoming CAS Internship meeting and/or taking advantage of the Liberal Arts Enrichment Center will uncover an exciting opportunity for you, as CAS majors, in the future.

Upcoming Blood Drive

The Amanda Kundrat Memorial Blood Drive is coming up January 25 from 10-4 in the Learning Center, which is 7 Sparks.  It's a great ongoing annual cause, and each of you is welcome to participate.

Make an appointment to donate blood.  We are seeking 50 units this year (which means we need approximately 55 donors--not everyone is eligible the day of the drive due to health and other unexpected issues).  Making an appointment is easy.  Click on the link below. Once you get to the website enter your PSU email address and date of birth. If you have used the online appointment system before your information will display for your approval. If you have not used the online system before you can fill out the form with some basic information that the blood bank will need.  Then click the "Continue and View Blood Drives" button. You will see our blood drive. If you went to the site without using the link and don't see our drive, enter PSU where it asks for the sponsor code. Click the circle to the left of the day you would like your appointment. On the next page, pick a time. Then you will receive an email confirming your appointment.  Click Here now to make your appointment.

The drive is Friday, January 25, in 7 Sparks.  We currently need 47 more donation appointments--only 7 people have signed up to donate blood.  For the drive to be a success, we need donors!  Please encourage those you know to make an appointment ( psuredcross.org) and consider making an appointment yourself.
