CAS Dissertation Grants

CAS Dissertation Grants

The CAS Department provides an internal grants program designed to provide you with resources to help you complete your dissertation. You are eligible to receive up to $1500 if you have completed your prospectus meeting. The funds may be used for travel for dissertation research (but not for presentation of the project), for copying archival materials, for payment of research subjects (at University approved rates), for payment for statistical consulting (at approved vendors), or other dissertation-related research expenses.

Requirements are as follows:

1. There must be written evidence in the form of your advisor's signature that you have passed your prospectus meeting. Please note that although only the advisor signs, his or her signature is meant to convey the consensus of the committee that your dissertation project is sound.

2. You must make written application requesting the funds and provide a short (e.g. 1 page) rationale regarding how the funds are to be spent. Email is an acceptable medium for making this request. Requests should go to Wendy Harter (wxc7@psu.edu), who may request clarification if it is seen to be needed.

3. You must provide documentation of how the funds were spent (e.g., airline receipts, payment receipts to subjects) along with a signed endorsement from your advisor.

Caveat: The funds will be deposited directly into you student (bursar) account. This may have an effect on your student loans or other financial aid. If you have an outstanding balance against PSU, the funds will automatically go toward the satisfaction of that debt. These are things that we have no control over. But, please be advised of them and behave proactively.
