Applying To The Program

To APPLY to the Communication Arts & Sciences graduate program:

 

*Complete your Electronic Application.  Submit application by paying your $45.00 non-refundable application fee by credit card, or download a copy of the Application Fee Form (accessed through the Electronic Application) and mail with your check or money order, payable to Pennsylvania State University, to:

Please note:  Applications must be submitted electronically no later than January 5 for consideration to Fall admissions.  We do not admit students in the Spring or Summer semesters.

-     International money orders or checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank.
-     Your canceled check serves as your receipt.

 

Please submit the following support materials to complete your application (note materials should be sent to Department address below, not to the Graduate School):


* Two (2) official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended.

- International applicants must submit official or attested university records, with certified translations if the records are not in English.
 
- Notarized copies are not sufficient.

* Statement of purpose.

* Assistantship application.

* Three (3) letters of recommendation.  Letters be signed, and must be in sealed envelopes with signatures over the seals.


* Official scores from a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last three years (PSU school code 2660, CAS department code 4506).  Official scores are sent directly from ETS.

* Application for Visa Document (International Students Only)

* Official scores from a recent Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination (International Students Only) (PSU code 083).  Official scores are sent directly from ETS.

 

All application materials must be received in our offices no later than January 5 for consideration for the Fall semester. 


**Please note we do not admit new students in Spring or Summer semesters.

Materials without paid applications cannot be processed. 

 

Additional Provisions:

 

  1. Additional materials from applicants (e.g., term papers, research reports, recommendations, or evidence of other scholarly and professional development) may be requested at the discretion of the Graduate Officer for the purpose of reasonably evaluating an applicant’s suitability to the graduate program.
  2. Applicants lacking certain academic experience may be required by the Graduate Officer to complete academic work specific to relieving deficiencies.
  3. Minimum 2.50 GPA is expected for coursework outside the department.
