CAS 253 – Health Communication

How do people talk about health and illness? Why are some messages able to change people’s health behavior and others fail? How does someone design an effective health message?

Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide students with theoretical principles for designing and evaluating health messages that may be disseminated by health organizations, policy makers, and other interested publics. This course provides an overview of models of health communication and audience analysis. In the course, students have opportunities to evaluate existing health messages and are challenged to design their own theory-driven, audience-tailored health messages to address a current health challenge.
