Faculty Honors

Roxanne Parrott is the 2008 recipient of College of Liberal Art's Distinction in the Social Sciences Award.

During its annual conference this May, the International Communication Association (ICA) named Jon Nussbaum, professor of communication arts and sciences, a fellow of the organization. The award is one of the highest honors in the field and Nussbaum is the first Penn State faculty member to earn this distinction. Most recently, Nussbaum’s research has focused on the way older Americans interact with the health care system and the dynamic between the elderly and the adult children who often care for them. Last year that research earned him the title of Outstanding Health Communication Scholar from the association.

There are currently 46 living fellows in the association with 4,300 international members. Fellow status is awarded based on two criteria, a lifetime of distinguished scholarship within communication and significant service to the discipline of communication.

Michael Hogan has been awarded the class of 1933 Distinction in the Humanities Award. The award will be presented by the Liberal Arts Alumni and Faculty Awards Program. He is received it at a reception on April 17, 2008. Congratulations!

Michael Hecht, Michelle-Miller-Day, and John Graham of Penn State University and Janice Krieger of Ohio State University were awarded a 5-year, $3.2 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (National Institute of Health) for their project, Adaptation Processes in School-Based Substance Abuse Prevention. The grant continues the Drug Resistance Strategies Project's work on adolescent drug prevention by examining how their federally-recognized keeping™ it REAL curriculum is adapted when used by rural middle schools in PA and OH.
