Biography:
Research Activities and Interests
I specialize in the communicative behavior of individuals across the life span emphasizing older adults. I currently research how older adults achieve a high quality of life as they manage their family, friendship, and professional relationships encountered within the health care system. I have served as President of the International Communication Association, President of the International Society of Language and Social Psychology, editor of the Journal of Communication, appointed a Fulbright Scholar in the UK, am a Fellow of the International Communication Association and the American Psychological Association (Div. 20: Adult Development and Aging), and have directed 29 dissertations and served on over 120 dissertation committees across numerous disciplines.
