Web Prototype Page

You will work in a group with 2-4 other people.  An area of web use will be assigned to your group. You are expected to research this area and produce a paper, presentation and a web site.

Areas of interest assigned to each group:

• travel and the web
• shopping on the web
• music and the web
• government/politics and the web
• education and the web
• weather and the web
• communication(facebook, myspace...) and the web
• dating/relationships and the web
• virtual worlds and the web
• gaming and the web

Your tasks include the following questions:

1. background to the general use of the Internet regarding this area

• what does the literature say?

• what is the background of this in development and use on the web?

• look at other sites that are used in this area, keep a list of the most notable ones

2. design issues related to the image projected by sites in this area, what are the unique features

3. develop a web site that discusses your findings regarding this type of site

4. present your findings to the class

5. develop a creative and quality web site to show what you found and the profile of users of this site
(think about what you would do if you were asked by a company to develop a comparable site)

6. demonstrate your knowledge of design issues related to this site

7. discuss what you project is the future of this type of site

Products from your group will consist of:

• a written report (6-8 pages), at least 7 resources(5 can be web resources or papers)

  • also discuss in paper who was responsible for the various tasks

• a web page (describe the topic, display findings, show examples)
• a presentation
• a review of the teamwork on this project, each person will provide a review of the individual work

9/18 - preliminary group plan

9/25 - outline of group work

9/30 - group presentation

Grading (total 10%):

10% ( 1% group plan, 2% organization(outline), 2% presentation, 3% web page, 2% paper )

Suggestions for group work:

split up work and tasks evenly, meet weekly during the class times, discuss findings of problems, write the paper together so that it flows together
