Christina Lope

My name is Christina Lope, and I am a former CAS graduate from Penn State’s class of 2011.  Life after college is definitely a big transition! After graduating, I became an Americorps member at Cray Youth & Family Services serving at-risk youth in the local community of New Castle, PA.  During this time, I assisted with designing and implementing an after-school enrichment and tutoring program (Origins) for these children. I also managed the Summer Food Program which serves free breakfast and lunch daily during the summer months to kids associated with the welfare system. I never realized how much I liked working with kids until I tried it!

After my year-long term ended with Americorps, I was actually offered a full-time position as the Program Coordinator for Origins, which was awesome! I still currently hold this position, and I am also a Foster Care Aide as well. As a Foster Care Aide, I supervise, serve, and monitor the well-being of children who are unable to live in their biological parents’ homes to make sure their needs are met.

When I am not working, I definitely enjoy attending and volunteering at my local church. I also appreciate really good food (especially Thai and sushi), Pittsburgh sports, playing piano, trips to the beach, quality time with family and friends, and of course, making people laugh!  My next personal goal in life is to get involved with a missions trip serving orphaned children in a third world country.

Advice to all you undergrads: It’s never too early to start networking! Make sure you attend all of the available career fairs and networking events that Penn State has to offer! They will really help you in the long run! Also, don’t let internship and volunteer opportunities pass you up, they might just be your ticket to getting your foot in the door with your dream company. Finally, don’t forget to stay connected with your PSU professors! They have a wealth of knowledge and are great resources for your future endeavors!
